"The Commedia Princess and the Pea" comes to Westport Country Playhouse on Sunday, Jan. 16.
Location: Westport Country Playhouse
25 Powers Ct, Westport, CT
When: January 16, 2011

Image Attached:  "The Commedia Princess and the Pea" at Westport Country Playhouse on Sunday, January 16.

Westport Country Playhouse's Family Festivities presents "The Commedia Princess and the Pea" at 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16. Recommended for ages five and up, the story asks the question:  How can you tell if someone is really, truly a princess?

In this funny, fast-paced show, the Tarradiddle Players put a slapstick spin on Hans Christian Andersen's classic fairy tale. The lonely Prince wants to find someone to marry, but potential princesses must first get past his mother the Queen and her long list of tests. Will any of them be royal enough to turn a cartwheel, sing "Happy Birthday" while hopping up and down on one leg, and feel a teeny, tiny pea under a big stack of mattresses?

With its roots in the humorous, physical acting style of Italian Commedia dell'arte, the production is written by Lane Riosley and Rebecca L. Byars.  Tickets are $15.

For more information and tickets, call the box office at (203) 227-4177, or for out-of-town callers toll-free at 888-927-7529, or visit the box office at 25 Powers Court , off Route 1, Westport . The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia presents "The Very Hungry Caterpiller" at Westport Country Playhouse Feb. 13.
Location: Westport Country Playhouse
25 Powers Ct, Westport, CT
When: February 13, 2011

Westport Country Playhouse's Family Festivities presents "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," recommended for ages 3 to 8, at 1 and 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13. The performance features three stories - "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," "Little Cloud" and "The Mixed-up Chameleon" - by award-winning children's book illustrator and writer Eric Carle, retold on stage in black light.

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" follows the wonderful adventures of a very tiny and very hungry caterpillar that progresses through an amazing variety of foods towards his eventual metamorphosis into a beautiful butterfly. Children will delight in the antics of "Little Cloud." High up in a beautiful sky, Little Cloud slips away from the rest and transforms itself into various shapes of things it sees - a sheep, and airplane, a shark and more. In "The Mixed-Up Chameleon," a little chameleon is bored with its life - sitting about predictably changing color all day. So it decides to embark on an adventurous trip to the zoo. Upon seeing the beautiful animals there, the little chameleon tries changing to look like each one of them.

The presentation is by Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia, adapted, directed and designed by Jim Morrow, music by Steven Naylor and narrated by Gordon Pinsent.  Tickets are $15.  For more information and tickets, call the box office at (203) 227-4177, or for out-of-town callers toll-free at 888-927-7529, or visit the box office at 25 Powers Court , off Route 1, Westport . The S4 program is an evidenced-based, scientifically proven, easy-to-implement system for student organization, note taking, test preparation, time management and much more.

Perfectly timed to kick off the New Year, the workshop is the as the sold-out series , held at MMS in November.

Said one mother whose child attended November's workshop; "Thank you so much for showing my son that studying for a test doesn't have to be so stressful. After taking your class, he was easily using some of the tools he learned in your program, and successfully applying them in his school work. Thank you again!"

To complement the middle school-focused workshop at MMS, St. Luke's School in New Canaan, is offering a high schooler version over 2 Saturdays: January 29 and February 5.

Jim Yavenditti, Head of the Upper School at St. Luke's said: "Study skills are the critical and necessary foundation for academic success. We are pleased to host another S4 program on the St. Luke's campus so that high school students in our community may take advantage of these important tools."

In a highly participatory and lively presentation, students learn skills and tools they can use in school — and in life. Key taught tools and skills of the program include:
