Rowayton's Community Cooperative Nursery School Annual Art Show

The Community Cooperative Nursery School in Rowayton is holding its 49th annual Art Show June 9 through 12. Well known to buyers for its sophistication and affordability, this remarkable show offers a wide variety of works from oils to watercolors, realism to abstract impressionism. This year’s featured artist is Darien, Connecticut-based Andrea Bonfils. Her paintings include a wide variety of subject matter, including tree-scapes, crashing waves, cows, swimmers and divers, gardens, fogged landscapes and colored skies. Opening night is Thursday, June 9th from 7pm to 10pm. The show continues Friday June 10th from 6pm to 10pm, Saturday, June 11th from 2pm to 8pm and Sunday, June 12th from 12pm to 4pm. Admission for opening night is $25, which includes a weekend pass. Admission for all other nights is $10. Admission includes complimentary beverages and appetizers. Comedy Improv Show

The Darien Arts Center is seeking artwork from local artists of all ages for its 53rd annual Art Show and Sale.  It will receive art Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. and again Tuesday, May 29, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The show kicks off with an awards ceremony and reception Friday, June 3, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Darien Arts Center’s Weatherstone Studio.

It will then be open for viewing every day from noon to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, June 4, through Saturday, June 11.

 The show is open to children and adults who live or work in Darien.  Nonresidents may also enter the show with a donation to the organization.  Entries are welcome in a variety of media, including: oils and acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, sculpture, photography (color and black and white) and pastels.

Student artists (K-12) may enter up to two pieces of artwork, with a registration fee of $10 per submission.  (No Sculpture K-8 please.) Adult artists may enter up to two pieces of artwork, with a registration fee of $15 per submission, but if two pieces are submitted, one must be priced for sale. All interested artists are encouraged to preregister online through the website, arts.darien.org. 

Artists may bring their artwork to the DAC’s Weatherstone Studio, behind Town Hall from noon to 4 p.m., and on Tuesday, May 31, from 4 to 8p.m.  Entries must be ready to hang with a wire on the back, or, if needed, the DAC will provide assistance with wiring at the drop-off site for a small fee.

Tri-M, or Modern Music Masters, is the music honor society at Darien High School led by Jonathan Grauer, conductor of the DHS Band and Jazz Ensemble. This society, sponsored by the Music Educators National Conference, has more than 5,500 chapters across the country, dedicated to recognizing the academic excellence of high school students and cultivating their musical interests. However, Tri-M serves a larger purpose than just honoring music students; as an organization, Tri-M serves to reach out to the community through student performances and music education.

Summer Volleyball Camp  for boys/girls ages 12 - 18

Next Level Volleyball Camp is in its third year of offering summer camp instruction at SUNY Purchase College.

This week-long afternoon camp is ideal for young athletes of all abilities to improve their games and bolster their confidence.

Campers will see rapid improvement in all aspects of their game, while learning from certified college coaches & players, and they will most importantly have FUN!!

Our program consists of two and a half hours of afternoon instruction & play. Campers are assigned to groups based on similar skill & ability.

Week one (July 11th-15th) is for both middle school age & high school beginner JV players.

Week two (July 25th-29th) is for advanced players ONLY.
